I spent time watching the big bumble bees in the cardoon flowers;
The cardoons have grown up to 7 feet tall, with large, thistle-like flowers. The flowers are big enough for the bees to disappear into.
There seemed to be a number of them sharing each flower head; I could just see about three on a flower, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were more on the other side.
Music
The flower duet, by Delibes, from his comic opera Lakmé, sung by Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca
Love that duet [wasn't it used in an airways ad?]
ReplyDeleteYes, British Airways, in the days when the planes all had different patterns on the tails. It's just such a beautiful aria.
DeleteAnna Netrebko was my husband's favourite singer, and we 'followed' her round various countries, Elisir d'amour in Vienna was one of the best,
ReplyDeleteParis Opera also
Following a singer around different countries sounds a wonderful idea! My parents loved Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, and played her recordings a lot when I was very young.
DeleteDrunken bees enjoying the cardoons - such a delight, and then followed by the Flower Duet - just perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe one suggested the other!
DeleteThe cardoons look wonderful such a deep purple. I love the flower duet. I worked with a French girl in one of my last jobs before I retired and on her answer phone she had a recording of the flower duet play before she said in her lovely French accent she was not available and to leave a message which I thought was charming. ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to have on your answer phone
DeleteThose cardoons are amazing! Thank you for sharing, and I'm sure that the bees are thanking you as well.
ReplyDeleteYou share the most wonderful music. I love the flower duet but never remember to look it out.
I find it fascinating how things suggest pieces of music
DeleteThe vibrant purple is amazing and a magnet for the bees...
ReplyDeleteThey seemed to be enjoying themselves!
DeleteBeautiful cardoons! They are such an impressive flower.
ReplyDeleteOur garden is really too small for them but I don't care!
