Tuesday 25th November - scavenger hunt; yellow

Yellow is such a cheerful colour, but there's not a lot about at this time of year. I haven't been to a garden centre recently so I don't know if they are selling pots ready-planted with tete-a-tete daffodils yet.

Our neighbour opposite has a great bank of yellow winter flowering jasmine below her window at the front.

Photograph from Gardener's World website

It's one of the things I look for, a signpost through the seasons, along with the shy pale blossoms on the ancient cherry tree, which is also outside her house.

The flowers are a reminder that the seasons turn, that it won't be cold and dark and grey forever.

Poem

I met this poem for first time in a rather anateurish anthology which had been produced specifically for the hospital waiting rooms. I have been so delighted every time I've come across it since. This comes from my Poems On The Underground book.

Take heart!

Music

Anothe Scuabin prelude, Op 11 no 11 in B major. I love these little miniatures. They are illustrations in a story book, or like opening a window onto a scene.

  1. Elizabethd has left a new comment on your post 'Tuesday 26th November - scavenger hunt; yellow':

I still have a yellow rose flowering in the garden!

Kirstenm says; I just caught the 'delete' command instead of 'publish' , and unfortunately it is instantaneous without the option to 'undo'. So I've copied and pasted your comment instead - sorry.
But a yellow rose still flowering! Enjoy it while you can, what a sunny sight!

  2. I'm having a rather low day so it was nice to have the little poem and the encouraging "take heart".

  3. That poem is beautiful as is the Scriabin. I don't know if I have ever played any Scriabin. Hmmm....
When we first bought our garden, it was full of yellow and purple flowers- Mrs Jones, our predecessor liked a colour scheme! Many of them have not survived sadly! The Yellow rod still does though!

    1. I only know the easier Preludes. I should investigate to see what else he composed, I know very little about him. We haven't got a colour scheme in the garden!

  6. Love that little poem, odd but nice. I have some Winter Jasmine, planted last year, it has a few flowers on it so I'm hoping it will grow and flourish, its on the new fence opposite our French doors.

  8. No Jasmine but plenty of Mahonia which is flowering a little early this year. Then, a week or two into December, I'll use the leaves plus other foraged/scavenged greenery to make a wreath for the front door. Loved the poem.

    1. I have a feeling we had mahonia in a,rather dark corner of the shaded border; I must go and have a look and see if it's still there.
      The poem is wonderful.
