Friday 9th January - can Spring be far away?

A friend returned a book this evening and handed over a lovely bunch of tulips

If there are tulips in the shops, surely Spring can't be too far away?

I adore this version of Carnival of the animals,  with Roger Moore's tongue in cheek delivery, and the humour of the performance, and obvious enjoyment and rapport of the musicians, and the romantic venue. I wish I had been there.

I think this must be in the spirit of the original performance; Saint-Saens composed it as a light-hearted entertainment for his students and friends, and afterwards tried to suppress it as a mere frivolous nonsense.

It might be frivolous, but it is still genius!

Here's the cuckoo... where's the cuckoo?

  1. Spring soon? I hope so. There are daffodils in the shops here but we won't see one popping up until mid-March at least.

    1. The shoots are showing through the frozen soil... but we won't see the flowers in our garden until March as you say.

  2. That is charming. I loved Roger Moore's voice and his tongue in cheek attitude. I have some tulips in a vase and they look so fresh and colourful. We have bulbs sprouting and lots of little birds twittering about so tiny signs of spring we hope. Regards Sue H

  3. Winter is just revving up here. We'll get snow in April, though April snows next fast.
