Yes! Checking the weather app on my phone this morning, I saw that the days are now only a few minutes less than 12 hours, that is from sunrise to sunset. The spring equinox is less than a week away, oh joy, oh joy, oh joy.
Have all winters felt as long and grey and cold as this one? Probably not. But sometimes they do seem to go on forever.
However we have tulips and primulas and forget-me-nots flowering in the garden, trees beginning to have the greenish haze of new leaves on the top-most branches, and real leaves on clematis vines and the lilac.
I spent months learning this, a few bars at a time, whenever I visited my aunt's house. Her copy of the music was very fragile and she didn't want to lend it to me, so I memorised the next couple of bars every week.
Yes, we're almost there. Our sunrise this morning was at 7:19 and sunset will be at 7:17. We had a mild winter so far but now in March we've had some of the chilliest nights. But no snow.

DeleteWe're back in winter again. Not as bad as north of us where roads are impassable with snow drifts, but we've had snow again. Sigh. Our high today was -5C by Friday we're going to be 17C. My poor body doesn't know whether to be warm or cold. On the plus side, the days are getting longer lol
ReplyDeleteI wake up to sunshine (our bedroom faces south east) and get dressed accordingly, come down to our north east kitchen and realise that I'm missing that extra layer of clothes I so causally dismissed upstairs! We've only had a couple of icy days here, I can’t imagine surviving one of your winters. 🥶

ReplyDeleteI must find out how mine are getting on; I had over a dozen, and a friend has been sheltering them in her conservatory over winter.
DeleteWe had another big dose of winter abd likely will get at least one more. But, since moving clicks forward, it's light out past 7:00! No more headlamp for dog walking until fall.
