Sunday 16th November - chatty letter-style email

Well, it's actually a chatty email-style letter; right words, wrong order.

I don't make so many typos-writeos?- when I'm using pen and paper. It's a far more satisfying method of communication. One whole word, a whole phrase even, at a time instead of dotting about, letter by letter, on a keyboard.

I don't want to embark on a new prayer course or scheme or book at the moment, but I do find that I get very random and unstructured without some kind of support. Come 1st December I'll find it easy to stay on track, as I'll get 'Haphazard by Starlight', an anthology of poems for Advent with reflections by Janet Morley. Meanwhile I'm thinking about The Lord's Prayer, line by line, phrase by phrase.

I found myself writing a chatty page or two, like a letter, in one of the notebook swaps the other day, on the first line; Our Father. There's a lot to consider; of course, back in Gospel days they didn't discuss the Holy Trinity, and the Holy Spirit and The Son. The idea of the Trinity wasn't really there until after Pentecost.

Rambling on, chatty letter style, about describes how I pray. I might start with something from a book, but get sidetracked...

Seems to work for me...

Here's Christopher Robin having the same difficulty staying 'on task'

  1. A friend told me recently that he is meditation on the Lord's Prayer each morning as he brushes his teeth!

    1. I'm impressed; I'm concentrating too hard on brushing my teeth to think about anything else!

  2. I had a friend who said she used to pray when on the loo - it was her only free time!

    1. Reminds me of the children's book '5 minutes peace'...

  3. That book sounds fascinating. I looked up a review and this is what it said...
."..if.... you are either Christian, agnostic or just cheerfully live-and-let-live atheistic, and you love poetry, then Haphazard by Starlight is a little gem."
Will you be posting any of the poems during Advent? That would be a great idea.

    1. I probably shouldn't post too many of her choices, but I had certainly thought of looking out Advent themed poetry!
