Lilac in leaf, wallflowers almost about to flower, and my peony is already flowering, rather recklessly. I thought they didn't come out until later. I can't see the flower though, because it is completely hidden by a clump of tall vigorous daffodils.
I've been reading 'The Violin Maker's Secret' by Evie Woods.
How would I catergorize it? There's the backstory revealed as the book progresses, tragic romance, passion for music, and the present day romance/thriller, and the whole thing shot through with a kind of magic.
It was one of the options suggested (not by me) for the Book Club. I'm not sure if all the group would gave liked it; it's what I think of as an easy, light-weight book. Fine by me - I enjoy this kind of easy reading as a contrast to weightier tomes. I do like a happy ending.
....
Here's some 'light-weight' music; Anitra's Tanz from Grieg's 'Peer Gynt' Suite. This has always seemed to me to be as light as air...

I may add that book to my list of books to read but with better weather on the way I'll be outside a lot more and have less time to read. It's sad but we have only so many hours in a day :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing that your Peony is blooming while mine is about a foot tall.
I shall have to go and look at the peony properly today.
DeleteI'm more of a mind for light reads these days. Bitter cold coming again to my part of the world.
ReplyDeleteCast ne'er a clout till May is out, as they say. Too soon to put the winter woolly jumpers away!
DeleteI think Peer Gynt is a beautiful piece. I heard Morning Mood used in a coffee ad yesterday - as it was 50 years ago!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the first pieces of music I used to listen to on my parent's record player.
DeleteInterestingly, I started the Evie Woods book last night. Only a few pages in, I was starting to wonder if it was worth it. Too light-weight I thought and decided to abandon it. I may give it another chance but my book pile to be read is huge. Tine to move on I think.
ReplyDeleteOne generally know 10-20 pages in...
DeleteI did a little gardening yesterday and while it wasn't warm, it was calm, and lovely to see the flowers. Masses of violets and forget-me-nots and our wallflowers are already open, but the magnolias have only just opened.
ReplyDeleteYes, the sun is deceptive, there's not much warmth in it yet.
DeleteI enjoy light reads. I like to read as an escape from all that's going on in the world and life.
ReplyDeleteMe too, but sometimes I feel the need for something weightier
