Wednesday 23rd April - Carrots. Wedding Ring. etc

Batch cooking has happened. A crock-pot full of carrot soup made about 6 portions for suppers, and a tray of minced beef, vegetables and beans made another 8 portions for lunches. The freezer is now bulging; we'll have to do a freezer inventory soon.

BB walked into town yesterday to the jewellers, and left his ring with them. They are going to cut a chunk out of it, so hopefully we've played the last game of 'hunt the wedding ring'.

I'm knitting along my experimental cardigan. So far I've finished three of the five strips that will make the back. Hooray, hooray! I ordered another ball of Sirdar Jewelspun chunky in what I hoped would be a toning shade, and a slightly shorter set of 6.5mm needles. The yarn is perfect, and the new needles are So Much Better.

I'm pulling the yarn from the centre of the current ball, and all was going well until this happened;

Instead of a length of yarn I pulled out a tangled knot! (Looking too much like intestines for my liking)

I just had to practise patience as I unravelled it. Then, of course I was left with yards of wool... nothing for it but to knit and knit until it was tidied up into several dozen rows of mock rib!

  1. As fun as hunt the ring sounds I do hope the problem gets solved!

    1. 'Fun'... there are certain 'hunt the ...' games (insert keys, tickets, phone, passports, wallet, important document) games which are pretty terrifying! I'll be glad not to play any of them ever again... (memo to self, sort out my filing system!)
      I sometimes think of the nuns at school, always knitting with fine black wool for the priests or themselves. Such a hard colour to knit with. This thick soft colourful yarn is a joy.

  2. Carrot soup sounds like a good idea, especially since I have some elderly carrots languishing in the fridge. There's the remainder of a loaf of cheese bread that needs using. Tomorrow's supper! Thank you.

    The only downside of a fully stocked freezer is not knowing what you've got or where it is. No matter how many times I promise to keep ready-to-heat-and-eat separate from still-needs-cooking they invariably get muddled. But then there are the happy accidents of finding the long lost Bolognese Sauce and supper is sorted.

    1. Yes, we're in desperate need of our occasional stock check... and the careful organisation of veg in top drawer, meals in the middle one and everything else at the bottom is now completely shuffled.

  5. You're very patient with your tangled yarn. It is so pretty, though, and it's fascinating to watch as the 'pattern' emerges. Are you knitting faster and faster to get on to the next bit?

    1. How did you guess? But the faster I knit, the more frequently I have to tink (un-knit).

  6. I hope the ring solution works. He mustn't put on any weight though!! The ball of wool reminds me of an old joke. An unemployed piece of string goes to to the Job Centre. The guy behind the desk says "can you tell me how you'd describe yourself in an interview?" and the string replies "I'm afraid not"

    1. They left a little 'wriggle room' but his relatives are all tall and lean... I'm so pleased our children have inherited this, as my side tend to be more... shall we say 'chunky'?
      Wonderful pun!
