Yesterday we did a quick round trip - Aldi, to leave a box of books that I'm selling back to World of Books in the in-post lockers, and the British Heart Foundation to leave four bags of bric-a-brac and other stuff - some books WoB wouldn't take, a couple of school bags (when did I stop teaching? when did my daughter leave school?) and oddments of china. Gone, gone, gone!
I've another box of books ready to go to WoB now. That will make six boxes and bags to charity by the end of June, so I'm back on track for the 'two boxes a month' New Year Resolution.
It occurred to me that the money I get back on the books could go some way to feeding my own book-buying...
....
Today was a cardiology appointment (all's well, no changes) and I had found out that there was a Little Free Library near the clinic premises. So we detoured there as it was on my list of places to visit, with a couple more Wob rejects and a Judi Dench biography to leave as a swap. Or just leave.
But we were out of luck;
It had been taken down on 9th June for repairs. Ah well, I'll put the books in the next charity shop bag.

In 1999, my daughter's school opened a branch of Midland Bank on site,to encourage the pupils to look after their money.She was one of the cashiers, and was given a navy sports bag with bank logo. It remained pristine and virtually unused. YESTERDAY I filled it with donations (books, clothes, bric a brac) and donated it to a CS!
ReplyDeleteSynchronicity! We keep doing it!
DeleteIt was unfortunate that the little library was closed for repairs. There's one in our nearby park but not many books get donated to it and one day when it was actually almost full someone took them ALL. Hard to believe. Maybe that's the reason people are now hesitant to donate their books in case of another vulture.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, though, getting rid of all that unwanted "stuff".
People can behave in such an extraordinary way.
DeleteIt's always a great feeling to see the bags actually make it out of the house.
You put me to shame. My spare bedroom is slowly filling up with stuff waiting to be donated or recycled. In my defence, I got rid of all my unused crockery and glasses last summer.
ReplyDeleteThose four bags are a drop inthe ocean... sadly insignificant compared the actual volume of stuff still encroaching into our lives.
