The French windows and back door were built, back in the 1950s, without lintels. The bricks above the opening just rested on the door frames. So removing these doors means putting in reinforced steel joists (RSJs).
More hammering, but not for long, and not as loud. In fact it was a much quieter day.

It is interesting to see how building techniques change over the years. We are blessed (!?) with Artex ceilings

DeleteNot to mention the woodchip wall paper in the sitting room. Paint over it enough times and it becomes almost smooth...
