Sunday 5th November - 22nd Sunday after Trinity

 The collect for today, and this week, seems appropriate for 5th November;

LORD, we beseech thee to keep thy household the Church in continual godliness; that through thy protection it may be free from all adversities, and devoutly given to serve thee in good works, to the glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Christian Church, whatever the denomination, has not always been a place of 'godliness' and the roots of Bonfire Night are a sharp reminder of divisions and factions at that time in history. Before then were the Crusades... and recently there gave been other instances of appalling behaviour by the institution of the different churches and individuals within them.

So this prayer for the whole Christian Church and the people who profess themselves to be Christians is worth repeating, not just this week but continually through the year, that our behaviour will glorify God.

There is something about Grand Scenery and Massive Mountains that makes me want to sing hymn and alleluias.

The marker in the picture is me; I appear to have climbed to the top of the world in my vitual hike around a trail in the Yosemite park. I don't think I would be standing quite so close to the edge in real life.
