Thursday 23rd January - What did I do today?

 This is one of my favourite moments in all children's films; from the end of 'Hook', the Peter Pan film with Robin Williams;

We all know the well-worn phrase about 'losing one's marbles'; it such such a joyous moment when Uncle Tootles finds his marbles. He hadn't lost them after all!

Thinking back, trying to remember what I did today has been a bit like Uncle Tootles and his marbles...

I think it is partly because last night was a 'non-sleeping' night. Every so often I have a night when I really don't sleep well. It doesn't bother me - unless the headphones or my tablet have gone flat and I can't listen to an audio book or BBCsounds! Last night I listened to an episode of 'Soul Music' on BBCsounds about a piece of music I don't recall hearing before; Benedictus by Karl Jenkins.

I must have heard it before on Classic FM, but I don't remember it at all.

So beautiful, and the stories people were sharing about how it affected their lives were wonderful.

A sleepless night can be a real blessing.

Here is the final part of Psalm 23; you can listen to the Benedictus (Blessed is he comes in the Name of the Lord) while you consider it;

  1. Hope you get some sleep tonight. I hate those kind of nights. Husband has to get up really early for work so I either just lay there and think too much about silly things or I get up and go sleep out in the living room.

    1. I used to fret about 'non-sleeping' nights. Now I don't fight it but just put my headband style earphones on and drift off to sleep eventually

  2. I love this piece of music. We always used it in our remembrance Sunday service in Leicester, as the music played, the names of those from the village who had died in war appeared on the big screen at the front of the church. It was incredibly moving. I love the final triumphal section.

    1. It's a real gem. I've been browsing through the 'Soul Music' choices to find inspiration for my father’s ceremony.

  3. It is a beautiful composition and a great compensation for a poor night's sleep.

    1. I don't think I listened to it. I've often listened to his Requiem

  6. That's a beautiful piece of music. I hope you sleep better tonight. I've learned not to fuss too much about losing a night's sleep. I know I'll sleep well the following night.

    1. Just 'going with the flow' when I can't sleep, and distracting my mind with talking books or the radio to stop me from going over things that always prove to be molehills, not mountains, when seen in daylight, seems to work for me.
