Monday 11th August - it's hot!

 I'm tooo, tooooo hot to think or write! Just reading, playing the piano. I've got hold of that lovely piano piece by Chaminade from the other day and started learning it, very very slowly. So far it's not 'out of reach'...

Music

Elly Ameling and Dalton Baldwin with a sublime Fauré song, 'Au bord de l'eau', a poem by Sully Prudholme. What little gems my YouTube feed brings!

Here are the lyrics in French and English;

Tente, y goûter ;

At the Water's Edge
René-François Sully-Prudhomme

Seated together by the flowing stream,
We watch it flow;
Together, if a cloud should glide through space,
We would watch it glide;
If, on the horizon, smoke should drift from a roof of thatch,
We would watch it smoke.

If all around are fragrant flowers,
Let fragrance be.
If any fruit, where bees have sucked,
Should tempt you; taste it;
If any bird in the wood in which one listens,
Should sing, then listen…
Beneath the willow where the waters murmur
Hear the waters murmur.

One has no sense of a dream's duration
Whilst it lasts;
But neither, having no deep passion,
Except our mutual adoration,
Have we concern for worldly quarrels
And so ignore them;

Thus, happily alone, facing all things weary,
We do not tire
To feel our love, despite what happens,
Flow not away.
