Tuesday 12th August - Summer Trousers

I had to giggle at Ang's comments today about trousers! While she was discussing the effect of wearing wide-leg trousers when one is not super tall and super slim, I was busy hemming my recently purchased......... wide leg trousers!

Well, I'm neither super tall nor super slim, but I am now cool and comfortable in this heat. I tend to wear trousers, as I have an ugly scar on one shin, and need to stay out of the sun in the hope of preventing any more developing. (It's not skin cancer, I hasten to add, but exposing it to sun would be a Bad Idea).

The cut, fit and style is exactly the same as my summer pyjamas... oh so comfortable. Ang is SO right about the complete 'look', but hey... I don't think I care. The trick is never looking in a mirror toone can retain one's illusions!

We moved to underneath the apple tree in the afternoon, where I finished the hem. (Including fixing the bit where I accidentally caught some of the leg in the stitches, but least said, soonest mended, as they say).

It was a full sensory experience; the cool breeze, the ever-changing sun and shadow as the leaves rustled...
The full scent (is that the word) of fermentation from all the windfalls gently decomposing all around....
And the rather worrying steady plunk of unripe acorns dropping from the oak tree and crashing thud of fruit dropping from the apple tree.

We moved back indoors when the breeze strengthened, before we could experience a 'Newtonian moment' courtesy of an apple landing on our heads!

  1. I was only thinking today that I should turn up my flappy cotton trousers, but no-one sees me outside the house . . .

    1. I took mine up by hand. Half an hour cutting and pinning, and two 35 minute sessions to sew the hems...

  2. I live in the southwestern part of the "United" (not at the moment, unfortunately) States. I wear linen trousers and skirts from June through September. Light weight cotton is also good choice. It makes living in the heat much more tolerable.

    1. I've got a long skirt and floaty cotton dress to sew up next! Loose clothes are so much more comfortable in the hot weather.
