After yesterday, we went nowhere, did nothing, saw no-one.
It was rather pleasant...
Lunch; Stir fried chicken and thick udon noodles with homemade 'teriyak-ish' sauce;
2 tbs dark soy, 1 tbs runny honey, a glug of dry sherry, chopped garlic, ginger and red chilli. Mix together in a little dish and pour into your wok frying pan as the noodles go in. I add a little splash of hot water to the pan after I've stirred the vegetables around in the hot oil to sort of steam them. When we lived in Singapore in the 1970s, we used to eat at 'the car park' some nights; literally a large car park that transformed itself into a mass of street food stalls. My mother noticed that they used to add just a little water to speed up the cooking of the vegetables.
Supper; M and S marmalade ham sandwiches made with a smear of mayonnaise on fresh bread (bread machines rule!) this morning.
How did we get hooked into watching Strictly Come Dancing? Well, we are now!
I am getting very fond of noodles - thick udon, and thinner egg ones. Waitrose are bringing out a Christmas Marmalade Ham i noticed this week. I usually buy a joint from. ALDI or LIDL and slo cook it, then finish in the oven with a basting of my own home made preserves. I like ham on Boxing Day
ReplyDeleteWe always basted the ham with a paste of black treacle and English mustard powder. The thought is making my mouth water!
DeleteSometimes you just need a day like that!
ReplyDeleteIt's been very good!
DeleteBeen an age since I ate a ham sandwich - I shall put ham on the shopping list!
ReplyDeleteDecent ham on fresh bread, with the merest smear of chutney or mustard or mayo.... ah... food for the gods...
DeleteSounds the best day for me,
ReplyDeleteIt was!
DeleteAdding water is interesting, especially since you don't need as much oil and it's more digestible...
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was at my son's and they had vegetables from the air fryer. I ate them for the first time and they were delicious.
I wish you a happy Sunday.
Our air fryer has an optional nonstick dish that fits in the basket; I often use it for roasted veg... it means the oil doesn't drip through. Although it might stop them from becoming crispy perhaps.
DeleteHappy Sunday to you too!
A peaceful day at home is good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteYes, you're so right.
DeleteInteresting about the feature your air fryer has. I don't often make stir fries but I should ( and I mean to). I copied down the ingredients that you used and that's what I'll use too.
ReplyDeleteYou can probably any oven proof dish inside an air fryer.
DeleteWhen it comes to stir fry sauces, there are loads of recipes online the Internet. I find many bought sauces too sweet and too salty to I make my own. You can choose how much chilli or ginger or garlic you like!
Adding a splash of water is a good idea! I love a stirfry! I always buy Tamari sauce from the refill place and just use that for my stirfries but I love throwing an egg in and that's nice too!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost running out of noodles (and actually finished the tamari on Wednesday making the Sticky Sesame cauliflower) so I need to get both from the refill place asap!
I must investigate tamari sauce... sticky sesame cauliflower sounds delicious
