Sunday 19th October - 90% chance of rain

 The forecast was correct.

I decided to 'zone out' for another day. BB kindly walked round to our corner shop, only a few minutes away, which has a COOK freezer, selling posh frozen meals, and came back with a lamb moussaka. He got there and back in between one bout of rain and the next. We're pretending we've gone out for lunch; I suppose, in a way, we have...

So we're having a restaurant quality meal in the peace and quiet and comfort of our home.

Music!

It's a 'scrolling through YouTube' sort of day, and this is too good not to share.

Rameau Les Sauvages les Indes Gallantes

This was a light-hearted 'heroic opera' composed by Rameau in the 1780s, consisting of four Entrées each telling a different love story, all with a 'happily ever after' ending.

This is the final song, a ceremony of peace;

Entrée IV – Les sauvages (The Savages)

edit

Scene: The stage shows a grove in a forest in America, on the borders of the French and Spanish colonies, where the ceremony of the Peace Pipe is about to be celebrated

Adario, a Native American, is in love with Zima, daughter of a native chief, but he fears the rivalry of the Spaniard Don Alvar and the Frenchman Damon. The Europeans plead with Zima for her love, but she says Damon is too fickle and Alvar is too jealous; she prefers the natural love shown by Adario and the couple vow to marry. The act ends with the Europeans joining the natives in the ceremony of peace (Chorus: Forêts paisibles)

I got all this information from Wikipedia.

Hope you too had a peaceful Sunday, or at any rate the kind of Sunday you wanted or needed.

  1. Restaurant quality meal at home sounds good to me! Going to a restaurant is too tiring for my husband due to his health, so it has to be that way for us. We are going to have our covid and flu vaccinations on Tuesday.

    1. I'm sorry your husband has health problems. I can't go inside restaurants and cafés as I am too vulnerable to respiratory infections. We can meet outdoors until it is too cold or wet!
The vaccinations seemed to make me tired, and my husband sneeze; hope you have no real after effects too.

  2. I love this music - it makes me want to dance. I'd love to be the one beating the drum!

  3. It's a very wet day here as well.
I don't like going to restaurants so we rarely do. Both of us have hearing problems and the noise level ( usually due to loud music) makes conversations impossible.

    1. I find constant music everywhere, even as background music to radio and tv programmes, very distracting. We'll be getting background music all through the news at this rate!

  4. I knew this piece but didn't know it as Rameau. Ooh, I love a Moussaka! I've not had Cook very often. I have had a good Sunday. Church was lovely and then I came home, hung washing and folded washing whilst watching Victoria on ITVX. I then read a bit, put washing away, sorted out my Operation Shoebox then went to pick windfall apples from the Carpark down the road- there was loads and in good condition!Cannot understand why none of the residents do it. I then peeled and cut up about 24 apples and made lovely stewed fruit with honey and blackcurrants!

    1. Moussaka isn't something I cook, but I'll often choose it if it's on a menu. We do operation shoebox at our church. I used to knit hats for it but now tend to donate money for the shipping costs.
