Wednesday 8th May

It's past my bedtime - I know it's only half past nine - but I'm not really a night owl. Anyway, that's an excuse for a quick post.

(Early to bed, and early to rise doesn't seem to have made me healthy, wealthy or wise, but that's a conundrum for another day)

Since I finished that last 'holy hat' - the one I knit while listening to David Suchet - what a lovely reading voice - deliver the next chunk of 'The Bible in One Year' - I've tried substituting Poncho Number 2 and also the current and rather neglected socks. Neither works. The straight needles I am using for the poncho are too straight and get mixed up with the duvet while I am knitting,

and wrangling the dpns for the sock is too distracting.

I shall begin another 'holy hat' instead - once I have cast on there is nothing else to pay attention to until it is time for the shaping.

To my total amazement, I can actually understand and enjoy this book! It belongs to Best Beloved. We met doing maths at university when our courses overlapped at the beginning of the second year, the difference being he understood and loved maths, and I was totally lost about 6 weeks into the first term of the first year. He now reads mathematical physics books for pleasure, whereas I stick to mostly lighter weight 'literature'.

This isn't light weight, but does cross over the border from specialist textbooks assuming in-depth knowledge and understanding into broader, fascinating insights into mathematical thought through time and across cultures.

Did I say it was bed-time? Sleep well!
