at the end of the tunnel
The last couple of days of coping with a really, really, really stiff neck, which threatened yelpingly painful spasms almost without warning have been very tough.
It's exhausting coping with the pain and the fear and the lack of sleep and at the same time keeping a guard on your tongue not to snap at your dear husband or just sit there swearing.
Today, things are so much better. I even managed, with careful planning, slow considered movements and the careful help of BB to have a shower, wash my hair, and change out of the pyjamas I have been wearing 24/7 since Saturday night.
It makes me feel like this...
But I shall sit quietly and patiently for a few more days yet!

You really have been suffering. That sounds so painful and the thing you should be doing - relaxing - is almost impossible as you unconsciously tense against the spasms.
ReplyDeleteI hope the improvement continues. Are you reclining?
We have used pillows to create a high back to the settee where I sit and added a cushioned footstool, which has made all difference. As long as I'm cautious and pay attention to what I'm doing I'm fine 🙂 ish!
DeleteThat sounds like an awful time. I'm glad you found ways to help, but such anxiety about triggering pain is hard to handle.
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'm over the worst of it. May God have mercy on those who live with it for longer than just a couple of days... my mother lived with phantom nerve pain for four years after the stroke. She is my role model.
DeleteSo glad this seems to be easing off for you. Must have been just lovely to get cleaned up and changed - and to be able to do that, albeit carefully and with help.- Beth (Google account not showing up for some reason).
ReplyDeleteI understand better how my mother was completely focused on getting the bathroom adaptions completed when she at last came home from her stroke! Ah... to be clean...!
DeleteUntil you've been there, it's hard to understand the therapeutic benefit of being squeaky clean in deliciously clean clothes......and a seat in the shower.
ReplyDeleteNot got a seat in shower yet, but it's in my mind... yes to clean clothes and shower!
DeleteI hope that you feel better soon. Dealing with such intense pain is so wearing that you can find yourself exhausted.
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved that pic of the tunnel. If feels joyful, light in the centre of dark.
Now, on Wednesday evening, I'm feeling much better. Moving a little more freely every day. I'm so thankful for this, and grieve for those who are stuck with chronic pain. Like you say, exhausting.
DeleteI'm so glad you're feeling a bit better!
ReplyDelete😊 thank you
DeleteI'm sorry you had a rough time with neck spasms. I hope very soon you'll feel better and be able to get on with your life. Pain can sure interrupt life.
ReplyDeletePain certainly cramps one's style!
