The Real Saturday post for 11th July

This morning my brain when I wrote the previous post, I was clearly not properlyawake!'. I'd had woken up far, far too early and the caffeine hadn't really kicked in..

The reason for seeing in the dawn? I had a hummingdinger of a nosebleed at 4.20 am - I checked the time - and it was half a box of tissues and over 25 minutes before it stopped. I was very pleased that I reacted quickly enough to save the bedding! (But my pyjamas went straight into the wash once I was up!).

Anyway, all's well that ends well, and I've been fine, if a bit scrambled what with early rising and a heatwave. The heat seems to suddenly envelop the house at about half past two, and then all sensible thought processes cease. We've been opening the front and back doors to let a draught of cool air sweep through.

Weren't the men's Wimbledon semi finals interesting yesterday! I stood in the hall and watched through the open door...

and then had a better idea; BB helped me set up a camping chair in the hall and brought me my laptop.

Now the tricky thing is that iplayer is about 2 seconds behind the TV... so he switched off the sound and watched on TV from the comfortof his armchair and listened to the delayed commentary. Confusing, or what, huh?

....

Assembled meals have been the order of the day; sliced ham, salad, potato salad...

'Pasta pockets' as my friend calls them (filled tortellini) with sauce out of a jar

Crustless quiche made first thing in the morning, with boiled potatoes, also cooked in the morning, and salad... you get the idea..

Although I've come to the conclusion that all the bought coleslaw salads have been dressed with the same generic mayo-type dressing, and it really is Much Better to make one's own.

....

I'm very much enjoying 'Mrs Endicott's Splendid Adventure' by Rhys Bowen, although I haven't reached the quotation I posted yet.

  1. It's the heat. I was convinced today was Friday, but I had no recollection of Thursday. I have stopped wearing my watch, it makes my wrist sweat so I have no idea of time either. But I do know tomorrow is Sunday, and I am "Duty Deacon" so have to get to church early to unlock. At least it is cool in the chapel.

    1. Zoom church for me; no respite from the heat... although my local church is like a greenhouse in the summer so I'm better off here!

  2. Sorry about the rude awakening in the wee hours (O dear. I just realized 'wee hours') Seriously, nosebleeds can be so awful I once landed in the ER with a blood-soaked bath towel with a bad one. Hopefully yours was a one-off.

    1. I did wonder if that's where we were headed at one point...

  3. Sorry to hear of your nosebleed. I once ended up in A&E with one and had my nose packed with swabs and sent home to go back 24 hours later for removal where upon it started to bleed again, profusely so much so they chastised my nostril. Thank goodness hasn't happened since, also I am on blood thinners so know it could be a humdinger. Glad you avoided a trip to hospital. We are living on salads and home made coleslaw is so much nicer than shop bought which always gives me bad indigestion. Regards Sue H

    1. Having your nostril 'chastised' instead of 'cauterised' sounds a much easier procedure... auto correct, I presume!

    2. Yes you got it auto correct the bane of our lives but does offer up some hilarious alternatives. Sue H

  4. What an unpleasant way to wake up. No wonder you were a bit scrambled later.
It is strange how the heat suddenly descends some days.

  5. Nasty for you. I had them quite badly as a teenager and can remember how frightening they are. I'm sure its the intense heat playing havoc with our bodies. At least you werent on Centre Court.

    1. I never had nosebleeds growing up, but the oxygen support has made my nose more susceptible... ne, centre court? Never in a million years!

  6. What a horrible thing to happen, I had some dreadful nose bleeds a few years ago and ended up in hospital for 2 days.

    1. It was a bit alarming, I confess... and I was very glad not to have to rock up to A and E in bloodstained pyjamas clutching a box of tissues!

  7. I think the heat is on the verge of doing everyone in. Didn't that Arthur Fery. in the tennis, keep having nosebleeds? I think he had to have it cauterised in the end.

    1. I missed the bit where Arthur Fery had his nosebleeds; how embarrassingly public for him. Still, I seem to have avoided having it cauterised which sounds very unpleasant. Phew!
