Depending on who you ask, the theme for the first Sunday in Advent is Hope, or else The Patriarchs.
I'm going with Hope.
I've just finished re-reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe' for the umpteenth time and I recommend it as an excellent seasonal read for this week in which hope is fulfilled and Good triumphs over evil.

The first 'episode' of the Corinne Lapierre Advent Calendar remains a complete mystery. I listened to the background music on my Jacquie Lawson calender while I was sewing.
It was a while before I was actually able to begin the stitching; a template to trace and cut out, a search for spare scissors and pins (these are sewing scissors, I used craft scissors on the paper), the felt to cut out, and then the threads to sort and prepare. In the end I wound them all onto clothes pegs to keep them under control!
There are Advent calendars for everyone these days so I should not be surprised that there is a special one for crafters. You will no doubt enjoy it a lot!!
ReplyDeleteYou wondered if my Mom's old sewing machine still works. It would if we bothered to find a new belt for it. Unfortunately I didn't inherit the sewing/knitting/crocheting gene.
Granny Marigold
I was interested as the first sewing machine I used was a treadle machine. The old-fashioned convent I went to until I was 10 had a row of four of them. I hated sewing, but discovered that the sewing machine, even an old treadle, speeded things up considerably!
DeleteYour threads look good on the pegs!that's a very interesting background
ReplyDeleteI think the brown might turn into a tree perhaps.
DeleteMy congregation's Advent book study this year is "Advent in Narnia", closely following "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". It's a book of daily devotions by Heidi Haverkamp, an American Episcopalian (=Anglican) vicar. We're taking up the readings and reflections questions in four weekly instalments, taking up a week's worth at each session. Published in 2015 and an easy read.
ReplyDeleteI must make a note of this book. I'm reading 'Paths in the Snow' by Jem Broomfield, a Lay Reader and University lecturer. He goes in to Christian, Literary and historical background to the Lion Witch and Wardrobe. It is certainly enlightening and has enriched my reading this time around.
DeleteI watched the first JL day, wasnt it the decorating of the tree? The background is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteYes, 'sapin de noel'. I had to look up 'sapin'. Did you find Father Christmas?
