It's no good asking me to explain what this is all about
BB has finished the complex jigsaw and we have put it away. The tray was empty for all of twenty minutes, before being loaded up with the bits for the next project... something to do with the automatic backup system we run for our two (his'n'hers) laptop computers. He's been thinking around it for nearly a year as our current system is nearing the end.
When did you last back up your computer? How much have you added to it since then? BB does quite a bit of 'rescuing' for friends. He's always discovering that they haven't backed up their computer for months, even years. Save your data!
Argh! I've just discovered my last backup was August. At least is was August 2024. I'm running a backup now...
....
Cabbages.
This is for my son following a telephone conversation earlier this evening
Stir-fried/quick braised cabbage.
Shred your cabbage finely. We briefly discussed using the paper shredder but decided that was probably a bad idea for the shredder and the cabbage. But it gives an idea of how small the pieces want to be.
Melt some butter on a medium heat, add finely chopped onions, or spring onions if you like and the cabbage. Stir it about to coat it all in the butter and let it wilt for a minute or so. Add a little hot water from the kettle, some salt and pepper, and let it cook for about five minutes or so until it is al dente - soft but not soggy.
If you shred the whole cabbage you can keep it in the fridge and it's ready to use in salads or as a cooked vegetable.
.....
This Nunc Dimittis composed by Paul Smith and sung in latin. Voces8 again.
I may or may not have automatic back up to One Drive. Given how much of my life is text, perhaps I should look at that soon.
ReplyDeleteThe cabbage sounds nice. I usually add caraway seeds to cabbage as it's supposed to make it easier to digest. That recipe sounds delicious, but I can't promise to leave out the caraway seeds.
I agree with the caraway seeds! Also adding bacon lardons or pieces at the early stage, before the cabbage and frying them so the dat running us a good idea for non vegetarians like me.
DeleteI got a recipe for this years ago in Georgina Horley’s book “Good Food on a Budget”. It called for caraway seeds but I don’t like them so have never used them. It is delicious.
DeleteIt's a great way of cooking cabbage
DeleteYou took the words out of my mouth Kirsten, I would always add little pieces of bacon. As for back-up..... I have to admit I wouldnt know where to start.
ReplyDeleteIt might be an idea to ask about backing up your computer - someone (not me!) will know.
DeleteJuniper berries in the cabbage are also nice.

I've got a nice spring cabbage in the fridge and this recipe would suit it very nicely.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteI like juniper berries in with my cabbage
ReplyDeleteBut perhaps not at same time as caraway seeds ?!?
DeleteI sort of back things up. The photos at least lol. Not sure there is much else of importance on the computer at this point.
ReplyDeleteIt mattered a lot more when I was teaching. It's started to be important again now I'm sorting out my father’s finances.
