Friday 7th March - 'I made you wonderful'

 My Thought for today

I went to a convent prep school,  although my parents weren't catholics. We were all given a little red catechism, and I always remember the very first question;

"Who made you?" and the answer "God made me."

I remember nothing from the subsequent 20 or 30 pages but that one thing stuck with me. I've still got the tattered remnants of the booklet somewhere...

It's World Day of Prayer, formerly Women's World Day of Prayer, today, and the ecumenical service that is being in countless churches of many, many different denomiations was created by a committe of women in the Cook Islands. They chose the theme 'I made you wonderful '.

So that's what I've been thinking about as I read today's Andrew Dotchin Lent reflection, drank my morning coffee, pottered around doing not very much.

I haven't attended a WoP service today, but my zoom church will be basing this Sunday's service on the WoP materials so I won't have missed out.

Ang has this picture on her blog, I hope she won't mind me borrowing it;

I love the way it describes the world circle of prayer. As I write, at half past eight in the evening, my own church will be coming to the end of the service they are hosting this evening; the teas, coffees, cakes and biscuits will all be ready... for Prayer is the church's banquet as the George Herbert poem asserts!

Knitting

Oh wow, I was only half an inch away from reaching the (drum roll) Heel Turn. I will need a quiet hour or so tomorrow or Sunday to give this hext step my full attention!

Cooking

I was going to nake meatballs for lunch (and for the freezer) then decided to make meatloaf as a short cut. Well, wowsers, though I say it myself; 400g or thereabouts of minced beef (not too lean), a handful of breadcrumbs, galf an onion very finely chopped, an egg, a beef stock cube, garlic paste, a tablespoon of tomato pure, dried herbs, and a decent amount of pepper. I squidged that all together and pushed it into the little metal pan that fits in the air fryer basket. About 40 mins at 180°C and it was cooked (I checked that the internal temperature was just above 70°C).

After resting it, I cut in half, and then sliced it. Half has gone in the freezer and we had the other half with pasta, a tomato sauce and various veg for lunch. So much easier than making meatballs!

Music

From the Cook Islands... the description is in French, but I think I managed to work out the song is about the Beautiful Island...

    I make a similar meat loaf but add some packet stuffing mix to it just for extra flavour.

    1. The stuffing mix would substitute for the breadcrumbs and stock cube very well, what a good idea.
      It's very moving to think of the wave of prayer.

  2. I like the stuffing idea. I've got a packet in the cupboard, mince in the freezer, and onion in the fridge...Sorted! The WDP circle is from the website. I never got to a service this year

  4. We often have meat loaf delicious. I like to eat it cold too with salad. A great wave of prayer sounds so comforting, if only all the World would join in. Good luck with your pivotal sock moment. Regards Sue H

      I'll drink my coffee and set about that sock now

  5. I tend to make meatballs more often than meatloaf. A great wave of prayer is wonderful to contemplate.

    1. I must admit I usually cheat at meatballs by cutting up sausages!
