Friday 8th August - A Grand Day Out

 We've been to Ham House in Richmond, London, so that I could meet up with a friend from primary school days.

We were inseparable until we went our separate ways; she went away to boarding school, and much later, when my parents moved abroad, I also went to (a different) boarding school. After that our paths only crossed sporadically.

It was lovely to catch up on the twenty or thirty years since we last met up!

No pictures; I'm pretty well done for the day after all that fresh air and all that talking.

Music

Voces8 again, singing a lovely, if mysterious, poem by Sara Teasdale. Words and blurb underneath.

VOCES8 sings the group's new commission for its twentieth anniversary by Lucy Walker, 'Give Me Your Stars' at the VOCES8 Centre in London.

TEXT by Sara Teasdale

Peace flows into me
As the tide to the pool by the shore;
It is mine forevermore,
It ebbs not back like the sea.

I am the pool of blue
That worships the vivid sky;
My hopes were heaven-high,
They are all fulfilled in you.

I am the pool of gold
When sunset burns and dies—
You are my deepening skies,
Give me your stars to hold.

  2. It's wonderful to meet up with old friends. They are true kindred spirits when you can pick up where you left off 30 years ago. Regards Sue H

  3. The decades pass without us really recognising the fact and they slip into insignificance just as readily when we meet old friends again. What a lovely day you had.

    1. 'I don't know where the years go' is such a cliché but so true
